Return of the Zimmers

Return of the Zimmers

Nashville has been the backdrop for many great Monster Jam moments, such as the debut of BroDozer, the incredible World Finals XXII event, my unforgettable performance of Achy Breaky Heart at the Wildhorse (I joke, I joke), and now the return of the Zimmer’s to Monster Jam.

When the 2024 schedule and lineup was announced, inconspicuous in his absence was Jon Zimmer Jr and Terminal Velocity, especially after a great season in 2023 in which he challenged for a series championship. Questions on social media were rampant as to the whereabouts of 2nd generation driver, but throughout the year we saw Terminal Velocity pop up at different independent events around the country with a familiar teammate, in his dad and Grave Digger legend Jon Zimmer Sr.

When the Nashville lineup was announced there was no pomp and circumstance, no fireworks, no social media ballyhoo, but it was simply right there for all of us to cheer about, Terminal Velocity was coming back, and Uproar would be making its Monster Jam debut at Nissan Stadium. It was a fitting venue, since the last time we saw Jon Zimmer Jr at a Monster Jam stadium event was in Music City when he finished 2nd in the skills competition at World Finals and would go on to win the Rising Star Award at the awards ceremony later that weekend, an honor his dad received back in 2009.

Speaking of “Big Zim”, we last saw him behind the wheel of Wild Side back in 2023 but we haven’t been treated to a full season from one of the best to ever do it since 2019 so to see Jon Zimmer back behind the wheel of a truck is a sight for sore eyes. During their time away from Monster Jam the Zimmer’s were busy building their own team called “Send It Motorsports” and I am excited to dive into that more on an upcoming episode of Inside Monster Jam.

I am not sure what the future holds for the Zimmer’s in Monster Jam but for now it is a pleasure to welcome back this father and son team and to see Terminal Velocity and Uproar competing side by side at an arena or stadium near you.
